A new design reduces the packaging weight by 40% and cuts down on product wastage. The production process is twice as fast and requires only half the energy.

With its new packaging design for Aldi’s powdered milk, packaging producer Kornelis Caps & Closures has killed three birds with one stone: improved ease of use, a 40% reduction of the packaging weight, and a cost reduction. The opening in the film makes it easier to dose the product correctly and helps prevent product wastage. Creating the lighter lid, which cools down faster, with an injection moulding process is twice as fast as before and requires only half the energy. Because the smaller lid has a different design, more lids can fit into the same outer box.
