A handbook by Wageningen University and Research Centre (Wageningen UR) on the revenue potential of sorted collected plastic packaging waste from households.

The re-use of plastic packaging waste from households is a complex chain that generally consists of three steps. Firstly, separate collection by citizens or post-separation of household waste. Secondly, sorting and thirdly, conversion into washed regrind. In this research, Wageningen UR is analysed the second step, in which separately collected plastic packaging waste or post-separation plastic concentrates are sorted into material fractions that can be sold to recycling companies. This handbook contains a collection of technical performance data from sorting facilities and thus serves as a scientific basis for understanding the sorting processes for packaging. It shows that there are limitations to sorting revenues of plastic packaging waste, particularly for certain types of packaging such as films.
