Inks - printing on packaging

Publication date: December 14, 2021
Organisation: KIDV

In this fact sheet, KIDV provides insight into the use and impact of inks, to help companies make choices about the printing of packaging. Although in terms of weight, inks are only a minimal part of packaging, the application of inks can have an impact on the environment and people's health. Traditionally, conventional inks printed on packaging have contained harmful substances. Inks can also affect the recyclability of packaging. A low impact of inks on people and the environment does not necessarily mean better recycling.

By being transparent about the use of inks and by pointing out contradictions and dilemmas, conscious choices can be made to make packaging more sustainable. In this fact sheet with checklist, the KIDV provides insight into the printing on packaging in relation to sustainability aspects.
