The plastic bucket of the future: better recyclable, easier to reuse

Meet Saier Verpackungstechnik a German family-owned packaging company that is setting new standards with its S-Liner Peel and S-Liner Multifill, two innovations that could mean a massive shift in the handling of plastic buckets for paint, building materials and more.

Every year, millions of plastic buckets end up being incinerated after a single use. The reason: paint residues and other deposits are difficult to remove without significant effort and large amounts of water – often leaving the bucket unsuitable for high-quality recycling or reuse. The result: valuable raw materials are lost and the environment suffers from wastewater and cleaning agents.

The plastic bucket of the future: better recyclable, easier to reuse

The Solution: S-Liner Peel – The bucket with a removable inner film
Saier’s answer to this challenge is the S-Liner Peel, an award-winning innovation recognized with several high-profile awards, like the German Sustainability Award for Packaging in 2023. The S-Liner Peel features a thin, perfectly fitting inner film placed inside the bucket. After use, this film-along with any product residues-can be easily peeled off and properly disposed of. The interior of the bucket remains almost as clean as new, making it immediately suitable for reuse or recycling.

Key benefits:

  • No use of water or chemicals for cleaning
  • Buckets are immediately reusable or suitable for recycling
  • Significant reduction of wastewater pollution and microplastics

S-Liner Multifill: reusable solution for a closed loop system

Building on the success of S-Liner Peel, Saier developed the S-Liner Multifill system. This solution uses a removable, perfectly fitting inner bucket that can be replaced after use, while the outer bucket remains clean and can be reused many times. This not only saves time, water, and resources but also ensures that the main part of the material remains uncontaminated, enabling the production of high-quality recycled plastics.

Circular economy in practice: Return and reuse

Both innovations are ideal for return and reuse systems: painters or construction companies can return the clean buckets after use, which are then refilled or recycled. Although initially developed for the construction sector, Saier sees great potential in other industries such as food and chemicals.

With S-Liner Peel and S-Liner Multifill, Saier Verpackungstechnik proves that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. These solutions not only reduce environmental impact but also help close the materials loop-turning what was once waste into valuable resources for the future.
