PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) is a collective term for a group of chemical substances. These substances are man-made and do not occur naturally. Increasing research is being conducted into the risks associated with different PFAS substances, both in terms of environmental impact and toxicity. As a result, they regularly appear in the news. PFAS substances have a wide range of applications in many different products, including both industrial and consumer products.

In this factsheet, we focus primarily on the use of PFAS in packaging materials and provide more information about the properties, legislation, and potential risks of PFAS substances.
