Marcel’s Greensoap in recycled PE

Publication date: July 25, 2016
Organisation: Marcel's Green Soap

Bottles of Marcel's Green Soap detergents are made from recycled plastic polyethylene (PE).

Previously, the packaging from Marcel’s Greensoap was made from PE which originated from milk packaging out of England. Nowadays, the material is collected from Dutch household packaging waste. The PE is sorted from the plastic waste by waste processors such as Suez and AVR. Thereafter, it is further processed by recycler QCP into regranulate. These are small PE flakes which can be used to make new plastic products. This regranulate is used by HD Packaging and Flestic to create the packaging for Marcel’s Greensoap products. Using recycled material was challenging in respect of meeting the requirements for the packaging, for instance the shrinkage behaviour, fitting the cap and scent, possibly coming from used plastic. These challenges have been solved with research.
